Assembly Member Cristina Garcia Honors Cerritos College Staff Raquel Lizarraga

Raquel Lizarraga and Cristina GarciaRaquel Lizarraga, administrative clerk for Cerritos College’s Technology division, recently received a Leader of Tomorrow awardfrom Assembly Member Cristina Garcia (#58) for her commitment to water safety and saving lives. The award was announced at Assembly Member’s Pride of the 58th Gala.

Raquel was selected from a total of 52 weekly honorees. Raquel serves as Vice President of Development at International Surf Lifesaving Association (ISLA). She travels across the globe leading teams of volunteers, creating social media campaigns and educating people about drowning prevention.

At Cerritos College, Raquel works for the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Technology Linked Learning, and is passionate about helping students succeed. Raquel focuses on creating pathways for students in high school to college. She has created 36 articulation agreements between Cerritos College and 13 local high schools. These agreements provide opportunities for high school students to earn Cerritos College credits while in high school. These agreements also help students by providing  them the basic skills and knowledge prior to college and decreasing the cost of college tuition. In January 2015 she received Cerritos College Employee of the Month for her contributions to the College and community.
