Women's History Celebration

Starting this month through May, the College will host an expanded Women's History Celebration with several events exploring this year's theme Women Transforming Communities through Engagement.

Events will include a piano concert, lectures, panel discussions, student club activities, and film screenings.

On Tuesday, February 23, instructors Andrew Rehfeld and Marian Youssef will present Feminist Theology: Gender and the Religious Experience discussion at 11 a.m. in SS 137.

Librarian Paula Pereira and ESL instructors Joann Sugihara-Cheetham and Martha Robles will share immigrant experiences on Wednesday, February 24, at 9:30 a.m. in LC 155.

For the complete schedule of Women's History Celebration events, please see the event calendar. All events are free and open to the public.

The College has celebrated Women's History Month since 1987 under the direction of Maureen May, Re-entry Resource specialist and gender equity coordinator. May spent 10 years coordinating the celebration until her retirement in 1996. Because of her vision and dedication, the College has continued to preserve the tradition, and became the first community college in California to offer an associate of arts degree in women's studies.
