Theatre students in a devised theatre performanceEleven theatre students, under the supervision of Theatre Department Chair F. Reed Brown, attended the Kennedy Center American College Theatre (KCACTF)’s Region Eight Festival held at The University of Hawaii–Manoa. The Festival, which welcomes over 18,000 college and university students every year, has eight regional festivals that offer workshops, regional awards and scholarships.

At the Festival, Theatre Arts Professor Susan Watanabe and theatre students Isaac Simons-Araya and Emma Simons-Araya conducted workshops in hair and make-up titled Special Effects Make-Up Using Household Items and From Flat to Fabulous. Cerritos College students participated in devised theatre, a form of theatre where the script originates from improvisatory work by a group of performers. Students also participated in sessions focused on stage management, approaching theatre as a business, Commedia movement and stage combat.

Christian Paul Martinez and Emma Simons-Araya received KCACTF Merit Award for their devised work Untitled. Isaac Simons-Araya, Rebecca Valenzuela and Ivan Oyarzabal developed and performed in a devised piece Products of the Future.
