Talon Marks Receives Journalism Awards
State Journalism Conference Honors Excellence in Student Reporting
Cerritos College's Talon Marks newspaper team recently won awards at the annual Journalism Association of Community
Colleges (JACC) state conference at the Burbank Marriott Hotel. The conference was
attended by nearly 500 students and faculty from community colleges throughout California.
The Talon Marks staff competed in the mail-in and on-the-spot competitions, and attended
workshops in various areas of journalism.
Karla Enriquez, editor-in-chief, Kristopher Carrasco, online editor, and Briana Velarde, platforms editor took second place in the on-the-spot video journalism category, and Ethan Ortiz, news editor, was an honorable mention in the on-the-spot new story category.
In addition, Talon Marks editors Karla Enriquez, Kristopher Carrasco and Gustavo Lopez presented a panel discussion about its recent breaking news coverage of two shootings across from the College. The College’s Mass Communications Department Chair and Talon Marks Faculty Adviser Rich Cameron moderated the panel.
