Faculty Honored for Distinguished Service
Eleven faculty members were honored for their service and mentorship to students during
the Outstanding Faculty Awards ceremony on April 28. Organized by the Faculty Senate
and the Professional Relations Committee, the event was attended by faculty members,
administrators, and members of the Board of Trustees. Assistant Professor of Theatre
Arts Craig Breit presented this year's Most Outstanding Faculty to Dr. David Betancourt,
professor/director of bands, music.
Dr. Betancourt has been the Director of Bands and Orchestra at Cerritos College since 1998. He is the conductor for the Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, Pep Band, and Pop/Rock Ensemble, and facilitates the Cerritos College Drumline. Dr. Betancourt has been the coordinator of the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTX) at Cerritos College since 2012. As a result, the CTX has become a resource for professional learning centers on university and community college campuses throughout the state.
Ten Outstanding Faculty awards were presented by Faculty Senate President Michelle Lewellen, and the Years of Service awards were presented by Rick Miranda, acting vice president of academic affairs:
