Board of Trustees Honors Retirees

Sally Sestini with her college familyThe Cerritos College Board of Trustees recognized retirees Christine Romer, Sally Sestini, and Jack Swanson for their many years of service to the college at the May 18 board meeting.

Christine Romer, assistant professor of chemistry, began teaching at Cerritos College in 1981. She served as department chair for six years and oversaw hiring of many faculty members including half of the current members in the department. Under Chris' leadership, the department became streamlined to better assist students. She also mentored numerious chemistry instructors during her tenure.

Mathematics Professor Sally Sestini has taught at Cerritos College for 30 years since 1986. She served as the mathematics department chair, and served as a principle investigator for a Title V grant that changed the way the department taught mathematics. Sally also established the annual math club book sale and raised thousands of dollars to support Su Casa. 

Jack Swanson with his wife and college familyJack Swanson, English professor, started his teaching career at Cerritos College in 1991. He served as the communication cheer and on the negotiation team for the faculty union, served as vice president of the faculty senate from 1996 to 2001, and was named as the outstanding senator in 1999 and 2000. Jack also served as the English department chair from 2004 to 2008, and played an integral part in the accreditation process for the College.

"Thank you for your service at Cerritos College," said Board of Trustees President Dr. Shin Liu. "Upon your retirement, we wish you good health, success, and fulfillment in the many years ahead."
