Hear My Story Literature Celebration a Success
Cerritos College hosted a literature celebration event Hear My Story, Know My World
on September 9. The event featured speakers, including the College’s very own author
Paula Pereira (librarian), Chicana poet Sara Borjas, and the keynote speaker Reyna
Grande. Grande, an award-winning novelist, memoirist and public speaker, shared her
experience as an illegal immigrant turned community college student, and how her experience
inspired her to pursue her education and career goals.
“The event was great. (Reyna) was an amazing, inspiring person. I can relate to everything she talked about,” said Ismael Ramirez, theatre and dance major.
Grande was also impressed with the students. “The event was very special to me. It was wonderful to see the Cerritos College students’ energy, interest in my story, and passion for literature,” said Grande after the event.
