More Than 100 High School Counselors Get Closer Look at Cerritos College Programs

Student Services panelMore than 100 counselors from local high schools recently visited Cerritos College for the tenth annual High School Counselor Conference.

Organized by the School Relations and Career Services offices, the conference offered vital information and updates to high school counselors on admissions, career technical education and academic programs, and educational partnerships offered by Cerritos College. All high schools within the district attended along with campuses from Bell Gardens, El Monte, Los Angeles, Montebello and Pico Rivera.

The event featured a panel of Cerritos College students from cosmetology, engineering design technology, and nursing, who offered advice on how high school seniors can easily transition to college life. Counselors also took a campus tour and learned about campus programs and resources, including dual enrollment, Project Lead the Way, Career Technical Education, Foster Youth, and Disabled Student Programs and Services.

“Our conference for high school counselors raises their awareness of our new policies, procedures, and programs, which can then be shared with high school students,” said Shirley Arceo, coordinator of school relations. “This allows high school students to possibly enroll easier, discover programs sooner, and make better decisions based on those options.”

" Each year that I attend (the conference) I learn something new about the institution. The student panel is very meaningful,” said a counselor in attendance.
