Culinary Arts Students Assist with Golden Globe Awards Dinner

Culinary Arts students in front of Beverly HiltonTwenty-four Cerritos College Culinary Arts students had another golden opportunity to prepare meals for the 2017 Golden Globe Awards award dinner held at the Beverly Hilton. Led by Department Chair Chef Michael Pierini and Chef Jesusita Lopez, the students were invited to return three years in a row to help prepare food for the main event and four after-parties, including HBO, InStyle Magazine, Amazon, and Dick Clark.

The students worked in a larger and faster setting than their normal campus kitchen. They also worked with distinguished chefs, including executive chef Alberico Nunziata at the Beverly Hilton.

“Two students were hired by Chef Alberico as full-time cooks this year,” said Chef Pierini. Since the culinary arts students began assisting with the Golden Globes dinner, nearly 20 students have been hired at the Beverly Hilton.

Chef Pierini and the former Executive Chef Troy Thompson have worked together for many years. Chef Thompson has helped the College's culinary students find jobs at top hotels and restaurants. When Chef Thompson became Executive Chef at the Beverly Hilton in July 2014, he began preparing for the 2015 Golden Globes. Because of their reputation for excellence, Chef Thompson chose Cerritos College students instead of students from private culinary schools.

"We thank each of the students for the incredible and extremely professional work they have done and the amazing support they gave us during these Globes," commended Executive Chef Alberico Nunziata, Beverly Hilton.
