iFalcon 3.0 Encourages Students to Get into the Habit

iFALCON Link UpdiFalcon 3.0 aims to engage students through a new three-tiered strategy, including a rebranding campaign, community outreach, and a new set of Habits of Mind workshops. The iFalcon team is creating a series of professional development modules for faculty.

iFalcon 3.0 features a new slogan: Get into the Habit that is centered on expanding the College’s Habits of Mind motto. The goal of iFalcon: Habits of Mind is to teach students how to practice and adopt success-oriented habits that are fundamental to being a successful student. The iFalcon strategy is emphasized through the use of the acronym based on the Falcon mascot. The six habits of mind for academic success include:

Focus – on completing the work ahead

Advance – by always improving

Link Up – partner with students and the academic community to meet goals

Comprehend – study to learn and understand – not to simply pass the test

Organize – keep learning materials together and orderly

New Ideas – embrace new ideas

As part of the iFalcon rebranding efforts, updated banners featuring students and faculty are displayed along the Library Resource Center.  The iFalcon team also plans to introduce new lifestyle and merchandise items like notebooks, pens, pencils, t-shirts, sweat shirts, backpacks, hats, among others.

Upcoming activities include a Meet Me Halfway: K-16 Bridge workshop, which targets local high school students. Habits of Mind workshops will also be conducted through online modules and held in the Success Center. Topics include educational goal setting, note-taking, strategic reading, top 10 Habits of Mind, mastering the job interview, overcoming procrastination, time management, and more. Workshops are held every Wednesdays from 1 - 2 p.m. in LC-51.

Faculty can also Get Into the Habit with the new Teaching and Learning Modules that gives instructors tools to integrate the Habits of Mind framework into their current teaching practices.
