Faculty Honored for Distinguished Service
Nine faculty members were honored for their service and mentorship to students during the Distinguished Faculty Awards ceremony on April 27. Organized by the Faculty Senate and the Professional Relations Committee, the event was attended by faculty members, administrators, and members of the Board of Trustees. Gary Pritchard, instructional dean, Fine arts/Mass Communications presented this year's Most Outstanding Faculty to James MacDevitt, assistant professor of art and director/curator of the Cerritos College Art Gallery.
James MacDevitt founded the multi-institutional SUR:biennial and the collaborative Art+Tech Artist-in-Residency program. He has also curated numerous exhibitions for the College, including OVER/FLOW: Horror Vacui in an Age of Information Abundance, Architectural Deinforcement: Constructing Disaster, and Decay, and After Image: The Photographic Process(ed). His essays were featured in the California State University, Fullerton’s Begovich Gallery catalog. Most recently, James brought the successful FAR Bazaar art event to the abandoned Fine Arts building. James holds a master’s in art history from the University of California, Riverside, where he previously served as Digital Media Associate and Assistant Director of its Sweeney Art Gallery.
Eight Outstanding Faculty awards were presented by Faculty Senate President Michelle Lewellen, and the Years of Service awards were presented by Rick Miranda, acting vice president of academic affairs:
