CalWORKS and International Student Services Celebrates End of the Year

CalWORKS graduatesThe CalWORKs and Office of International Student Services celebrated their third annual End-of-the-Year Student Graduation Ceremony on May 11.

The well-attended event celebrated and recognized more than 69 graduates and 20 transfer students from both CalWORKs and International Student programs, who have worked so hard to achieve their educational goals and dreams at Cerritos College. Some of the universities that students will be transferring to include UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara, University of District of Columbia, CSU Long beach, Dominguez Hills and Fullerton.

Additionally, the CalWORKs program honored and awarded scholarship awards to five students for their academic achievements.

Graduating international studentsPresident Fierro provided a welcoming and congratulatory message to the students, sharing his experience as a college student. For those transferring, his message was to remember to take time to enjoy their experiences and to continue to get involved in campus life and cherish their memories.

Featured student speakers included Tae Hoon Roh, who is transferring to UC Berkeley in the fall to pursue his bachelor’s degree in mathematics, and Eduardo De La Rosa, who has been accepted to five major universities and is making his decision to successfully transfer in the fall to pursue his bachelor’s degree in architecture.  

Professor Ana Torres-Bowers provided an inspirational message of cosmopolitanism, the ideology that all human beings belong to a single community and reminding us that we are all citizens of one world.
