Alumnus Selected for Prestigious Internship at New York University

Kevon WilliamsFormer psychology student Kevon Williams was selected as one of 10 interns for the National Science Foundation at New York University’s Center for Behavioral Statistics and the Study of Motivated Perception. Kevon was selected from more than 1,700 applicants.

Kevon transferred to California State Polytechnic University, Pomona in 2015, and plans to further his education in a doctoral program in counseling or clinical psychology. He hopes to help relieve mental illness in ethnic minority groups and provide mental health services for people of low socioeconomic status. Kevon is also interested in providing career development for under-represented minority youth.

“I hope to gain more knowledge and professional experience in research in social psychology (with this internship), said Kevon.

The internship program takes a hands-on approach to the teaching and learning of basic research principles. From June 5 to July 28, Kevon will participate in various academic experiences including weekly lab meetings, workshops, and research projects. He will learn to read and evaluate published research articles, develop a curriculum vita, write and present own research projects and findings.
