Shannon Kaveney and Shawna Baskette Named Managers of the Year
The Association for Cerritos College Management Employees (ACCME) has named Shannon
Kaveney, facilities manager, maintenance/grounds, and Shawna Baskette, dean of academic
success, as the recipients of the eighth annual Outstanding Manager Awards. The awards
recognize a classified manager and an academic manager who have significantly contributed
to Cerritos College through their leadership, involvement, and support of student
success, instruction, student services, college operations, community involvement,
and employee development.
Nominations were solicited from the campus community and award recipients were selected by the selection committee.
Shannon is part of the staff that oversees Senior Preview Day and Commencement, and
provided off-duty and emergency response to the campus on nights and weekends. He
does all of this with a smile and a can-do attitude. On top of his assigned duties,
he assumed responsibility for custodians during a peer's extended absence. He sees
the district as his customers and strives to provide and improve customer service
across campus.
Shawna is willing to hear staff’s ideas and tries to make the staff all that they can be. Shawna is also engaged and interested in improving the morale of her employees. Her actions are well thought out and fair across the department. Shawna has developed a handbook for various types of situations which the library employees can use to help out students. Her focus on students has resulted in a better learning library environment. She is engaged and interested in improving the success of our students.
