Cerritos College Celebrates Veterans Week

Tug of war winnersIn honor of Veteran’s Day, the Veteran’s Resource Center held a week-long celebration from November 6 – 9 to honor military service men and women. The festivities kicked off with the Veterans Resource Center open house. The Center showcased its services and offered attendees a free burrito lunch and giveaways. On Tuesday, students took a study break to participate in the tug-of-war challenge and rock climbing. The Kabarkada Club won $150 challenge followed by runner-up Commercial Music Club in the tug-of-war competition. The Robotics Club won third place.

 

Veterans Day speakers with college officialsThe Financial Aid office and Northwood University participated in Wednesday’s Military Appreciation Day. The Cosmetology Department provided haircuts and Student Health Services offered free flu shots to student veterans. To close out the week, Thursday’s Veterans Day ceremony featured student and faculty speakers who shared their experiences about transitioning from military to civilian life. Student speakers also shared their experience on being a veteran on campus and recounted how the College’s Veteran’s Resource Center provides them with critical support. Following the ceremony, participants enjoyed free lunch.
