Homecoming 2019 All About School Spirit
Hundreds of alumni, families and friends gathered at Homecoming -- the College's largest annual celebration of reunions on November 2. ASCC hosted a pre-game tailgate with club booths, food, games, and the pie-in-the-face fundraiser for the basic needs drive. Zombie Fest a Success
Nearly 150 brave survivors finished the zombie-infested maze in ASCC's annual Zombie Fest on Halloween. The Cosmetology Department applied zombie hair and make-up to 20 volunteers. The Most Amount of the Zombies award went to the cheer team. The Cosmetology Club won the Most Amount of Survivors award. The Sociology Club donated the most amount of food, and the Philosophy Club donated the most amount of hygiene items. All winning clubs will be invited to the Fall Awards Reception to be recognized.
Journalism Students Win Awards at Regional Competition
Journalism students won 15 awards at the 2019 Journalism Association of Community Colleges SoCal Regional Conference and Competition. The students attended a one-day conference and competition at California State University, Fullerton on October 19. Falcon Day Features Safety and Wellness
The second annual Falcon Day, held on November 1 was a great success with participants from faculty, classified/confidential staff, and managers. This year’s theme, “Safety and Wellness,” allowed campus employees to bond while learning and discussing key safety and wellness issues with campus and guest speakers. The professional development tracks featured a variety of sessions that were informative and practical.
Puente Program Mentee/Mentor Reception a Success
The Puente program hosted its annual Mentee/Mentor Reception on October 24, where Puente students meet their mentor for the first time. Mentors are Cerritos College employees, and at least have a bachelor’s degree. Mentees and mentors keep in touch and meet up throughout the academic year on topics pertaining to academics, career, personal, and any other matters that may arise. The mentor relationship benefits Puente students, who are under-represented, and many are first generation college students.
