The Cerritos College Board of Trustees Recognizes Accounting Faculty

Accounting facultyAt its July 20 meeting, the Board of Trustees recognized faculty members from the College’s accounting department for their investment in student success. The accounting program was named Best Value Accounting Associate Degree School in California by Business Degree Central in 2021.

The program garnered additional rankings for its academic excellence, making it one of the best in the state and across the nation.

  • 1st – Best Value Accounting Undergraduate Certificate Schools in the Far Western US Region
  • 2nd – Best Value Accounting Schools in California
  • 4th – Best Value Accounting Associate Degree Schools in the Far Western US Region
  • 7th – Best Value Accounting Schools in the Far Western US Region 

Cerritos College’s accounting program offers the most comprehensive range of accounting and finance courses offered at a California community college. Course offerings include: financial, managerial and cost accounting; income tax and payroll tax accounting; computerized and spreadsheet accounting; personal finance and stock market investment; and occupational work experience.

“As a result of our commitment to our students and their success, the number of our students transferring to highly-rated universities has increased, as has the number of female students in our programs, which has historically been a male-dominated profession,” said Teresa Lantz, professor of accounting and finance.

The accounting department and accounting club are dedicated to giving back to the community. During tax season, the department and club partner up to offer free assistance to low-income taxpayers, persons with disabilities, and provide assistance to residents with language barriers. In 2019, the team served nearly 60 taxpayers. Additionally, Cerritos College established one of the few community college chapters of the Association of Latino Professionals of America on campus.
