Future sports medicine professionals get hands-on kinesiology experience at Cerritos College
The Cerritos College Kinesiology Department and Dual Enrollment Program hosted an
engaging campus experience for sports medicine students from Gahr, La Mirada, and
St. John Bosco High Schools in December. Throughout the day, these students were introduced
to various kinesiology programs and learned how their current high school coursework
provides a direct pathway to college certificates. They also received information
on the college application process, Cerritos Complete, and the academic support services
available to help them succeed.
A highlight of the visit was a tour of the athletic training facility, which allowed
students to see the real-world applications of sports medicine and the professional
role of athletic trainers. The visit also included a guided tour of campus facilities
to showcase hands-on learning opportunities. Adding a layer of excitement, the schools
participated in challenges that tested their expertise; La Mirada High School won
the sports medicine trivia contest, while St. John Bosco High School secured first
place in the hands-on skills competition. Winning teams were awarded prizes donated
by several campus departments.
The visit showcased the robust dual enrollment partnerships that enable local students to get a head start on their careers. While students from Gahr and La Mirada complete multiple dual enrollment courses, those at St. John Bosco can complete an impressive seven-course sequence, allowing them to graduate high school with their Athletic Injury Certificate from Cerritos College already earned. The event highlighted the power of early college pathways and hands-on learning.
