Purchasing team at the Green Awards ceremonyNORWALK, Calif. – May 17, 2023 – Cerritos College recently received the Green Award at the 2023 Foundation for California Community Colleges (FCCC)/CollegeBuys Purchasing Conference. Presented by ODP Business Solutions (formerly Office Depot), the award recognized the Cerritos College Purchasing Department’s commitment to sustainability for its preference towards purchasing eco-friendly products, the most out of all the California community colleges during 2022.

Cerritos College used 42 percent of the total money spent with ODP on green products, according to the Green Report by FCCC/CollegeBuys and ODP.

In alignment with the College’s sustainability goals, the Purchasing Department procures the highest percentage of recycled content available, providing acceptable use and performance standards, according to Mark B. Logan, Director of Purchasing and Contract Administration. This is accomplished by highlighting products through ODP and other websites with a green designation to make employees aware of eco-friendly options prior to making their purchase decision.

“This award is a reflection of the conscious efforts of our employees’ and students’ commitment to sustainability,” said Logan.

“We are honored to have been recognized for these efforts and appreciate the opportunity to receive the award on behalf of the district. The Green Award recognizes Cerritos College’s continued commitment to sustainable practices and policies that conserve the planet’s diminishing natural resources. There is plenty more we can do, but this is yet another step in the right direction,” said Felipe R. Lopez, executive vice president of business services/assistant superintendent.
