Woodworking Department empowers future craftsmen with workshop for high school teachers and students

Woodworking workshop participantsThe Cerritos College Woodworking Department, along with the Cerritos Student Association of Woodworkers (CSAW) , hosted a workshop for high school woodshop teachers and some of their top students on April 25. The event was made possible thanks to the generous support and sponsorship from the Association of Woodworking and Finishing Suppliers (AWFS) and Shaper Tools.

Led by Woodworking Manufacturing Instructor Eric Loucks, participants learned how to design and build a box using a handheld CNC router called Origin, developed by Shaper Tools. They explored various joinery styles and even did an engraving on the lid. About 75 industry partners, teachers, students, and staff participated in the workshop, resulting in the completion of over 45 boxes.

The event was a tremendous success, providing participants with the confidence and knowledge to utilize the tool in their own classrooms with their students.
