Lynwood High School students achieve dual certificates in engineering technology through Cerritos College program
Four dual-enrolled students from Lynwood High School earned two certificates of achievement
in engineering technology: mechanical engineering design technician and electronics
and electrical engineering design technician.
Adoniram Mizarhin Espinoza, Agustin Sebastian Ramon, Manuel Antonio Rodas, and David Larios Colon completed college-level coursework at Cerritos College during their senior year. They developed valuable skills in 3D CAD design, digital electronics, technical documentation, and prototyping, positioning themselves ahead of their peers in their pursuit of becoming professional engineering technologists.
These scholars will continue their education at Cerritos College to earn Associate of Arts degrees in Engineering Design Technology and Engineering Technology. Their achievement highlights the impact of dual enrollment programs, mentorship, and the dedication of educators at Cerritos College and Lynwood High School.
“We are redefining workforce education by bridging the gap between high school and college, enabling students to gain professional skills early,” said Dr. Miodrag Micic, professor and chair of Engineering Design Technology. “Through the AMETLL grant, we've integrated Project Lead the Way high school curricula with engineering design technology pathways in our pioneering dual enrollment program.”
Since the engineering design technology program began collaborating with Lynwood High School in 2012, the program has graduated over 40 dual-enrolled students. Some of those graduates have gone on to become leaders in engineering and engineering technology.
Cerritos College partners with the school districts in its serving area, Project Lead The Way, and El Camino College through the AMETLL grant. Project Lead The Way is a non-profit organization that develops STEM curricula for elementary, middle, and high schools. PLTW also provides professional development training for instructors.
The college continues to expand its partnerships with local high schools, offering more students the opportunity to enter high-wage, high-skill technical careers with a head start.
