Business Accounting and Finance - Careers

Career Opportunities:

According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, published by the U. S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics, the employment of accountants is expected to grow by 5-6% for all specializations through the year 2034. Becoming a member of the California Society of CPA's (CalCPA) is FREE to students! Join today.

Accountants have a variety of career paths from which to choose. Those entering public accounting can work for Certified Public Accountant (CPA) firms ranging in size from large international companies to small local accounting practices. Accountants also work in private businesses varying in size from large corporations to "Mom and Pop" operations. Within the government, accountants work for federal, state, and local agencies. Accountants also work for non-profit organizations such as schools, hospitals, and charities, or open their own private tax and/or bookkeeping company.

Accounting and finance careers are evolving rather than diminishing, with strong hiring demand driven by business growth, technological change, and a limited talent pipeline. Professionals who combine technical certification, technology skills, and adaptability are best positioned for success over the next decade
