Dr. Denise Bailey

Associate Professor and Department Chair; Santiago Canyon College

Dr. Bailey been a Chemistry Professor for over 10 years and the Department Chair for seven years.  She has served and/or currently serves on District-wide Human Resources Committee, Planning & Institutional Effectiveness (PIE) Committee, Enrollment Management Committee, Facilities & Safety Committee, SCC Academic Senate, Honors Committee, and the Community Science Night Committee.  She is the Primary Reviewer for Chemistry curriculum through C-ID and ran the 5-year review of the course descriptors and the TMC.  She had the opportunity to advocate for and help develop the UC-TP degree in Chemistry and serves on the Board for a dual-enrollment charter high school.  As Department Chair, Dr. Bailey fields all student complaints and issues in the Chemistry Department and forwards them on and/or handle them as appropriate.  She helped develop the SLOs for each of the department’s courses and tied them to department, institutional, and district outcomes.  Additionally, she helped develop the rubrics used to assess the SLOs which all instructors use in their courses at least once per academic year.  She oversees the budget for my department (consumables, supplies, equipment, and maintenance contracts).  As a member of the Enrollment Management Committee, we analyze student enrollment and completion data to see how we can better serve our students’ needs.
