Re-Entry Student Receives Carmen Solis Pratt Scholarship

Cinthya and Dan PrattThe Cerritos College Foundation recently awarded Cinthya Valladolid Vergara of Lakewood with the $1,800 Carmen Solis Pratt Scholarship.

Judge Dan Pratt established the Carmen Solis Pratt Re-Entry Scholarship in 2001 in memory of his mother who valued education, but was unable to attend college herself.

Each year, a recipient is selected among applicants who are returning to school, and are 35 years of age or older.

Cinthya is working on her associate degree in culinary arts, and hopes to transfer to California State Polytechnic University, Pomona to earn a bachelor’s in hospitality.  Her ultimate professional goal is to become a recognized chef, and to show her children that it’s never too late to achieve a goal, as long as they have passion, dedication, and perseverance.

“I want to give my most sincere thank you to the Honorable Dan Pratt for choosing me as the recipient of the Carmen Solis Pratt Scholarship. Thank you for helping and supporting women like me who fight and work hard every day to improve our lives and the lives of our children,” said Cinthya.
