Nancy Buvinger and Dr. Nick Real Named Managers of the Year

The Association for Cerritos College Management Employees (ACCME) has named Nancy Buvinger, Director of Human Resources and Risk Management, and Dr. Nick Real, Dean of Technology, as the recipients of the 12th annual Outstanding Manager Awards. The awards recognize a classified manager and an academic manager who have significantly contributed to Cerritos College through their leadership, involvement, and support of student success, instruction, student services, college operations, community involvement, and employee development.

Nominations were solicited from the campus community and award recipients were selected by the selection committee.

Nancy BuvingerNancy Buvinger joined the Cerritos College management team on September 5th, 2017 as the Director of Human Resources and Risk Management. She brought to Cerritos a wealth of experience in Human Resources with for profit and non-profit industries. Nancy possesses several HR certifications and holds a Master’s degree in Counseling. Nancy is always willing to help. Her experience has quickly made her a resource, and she prioritizes being responsive to the needs of employees. She is a great listener; she provides helpful feedback with multiple solutions to challenges and is resourceful with current policies, laws and processes. Nancy spearheaded the transition from the legacy LACOE system to the new Human Capital Management system or HCM. She worked closely with Payroll to allow employees to keep up to date with leave balances and other information that it is now accessible online.  She has worked tirelessly in the areas of COVID-19 safety to keep our campus safe. Nancy is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion and empowers our team through mentorship, support and encouragement. 

Dr. Nick RealDr. Nick Real joined Cerritos College in August of 2000 as a full-time Machine Tool Technology Instructor. In January of 2012 he became the Dean of Technology, overseeing the Technology Division as well as Strong Workforce and Perkins. Nick is well known and well regarded in the CTE community. He works tirelessly to support students, faculty, and staff.  He led the division to continue in person opportunities early on in the pandemic, while also being innovative in how to teach CTE courses online. His priority is to ensure that students learn the skills they need to find employment. Nick is a resource both on and off campus, having formed relationships with school districts in the development and implementation of the Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering Technology Linked Learning Consortium (AMETLL) grant. Nick continues to teach classes, and faculty rely on him as a resource for curriculum and strategies. He goes above and beyond every day and is truly an asset to Cerritos College.
