Next Generation Scientists Get the Feel of Earth Science

Middle school students in the Earth Sciences labNearly 120 middle school students from the ABC Unified School District’s Next Generation Scientist Club visited the campus on January 30.

After taking a campus tour, the students participated in some fun activities hosted by the Earth Science Department, including density bottle-making using liquids of different densities, glitter, and food coloring, a Kahoot game exploring environmental issues and geographic features of the western U.S., and trying some essential earth sciences tools such as earthquake machines, stream tables, rock identification, microscopes, and more.

The students also got to hear from the professors about careers and the College’s guided pathways in geology and geography.

The one-day event introduced middle school students to college life and earth science.
