EDT 109 - Developing Education-Based Portfolios

This course covers the basic as well as advanced features of education-based e-portfolio (electronic portfolio) systems. E-portfolios can be used as a repository to store and organize digital evidence of teaching and learning. The tools in the e-portfolio systems will be used to represent individual learning and competencies. (1 unit)

EDT 110 Introduction to Educational Technology
TARGETED FOR FUTURE TEACHERS BUT OPEN TO ALL STUDENTS

Introduction to Educational Technology is designed to prepare future teachers with the understanding of how to utilize computers in the educational environment. Participants will learn basic computer terminology, fundamental Internet tools, basic word processing, the use of electronic spreadsheets and use of database management systems. A supportive learning community will be provided where future educators will learn skills in creating effective learning resources using suitable technologies. (2 units)

EDT 111 Web Design for Educators

This course is for educators with little or no experience creating or designing web pages. Topics of instruction will be web concepts, principles of good web design, special populations compliance, and school web site planning and building. Other topics include educational applications of the World Wide Web, copyright, plagiarism, and security issues. (1 unit)

EDT 112 Creating Virtual Curriculum

This course is intended to teach educators how to create conferenced and on-line (virtual) curriculum projects for use in the classroom and on the World Wide Web. Students in this course will be given guidelines for developing virtual museums, field trips, on-line exhibits, and exploratoriums from idea conception to the resulting conference or web pages for posting on the Internet. (3 units)

EDT 120 Exploring Assistive Technology in Education

This course is intended to develop the sensitivity, skills and knowledge needed by teachers and others in the field of education to create an educational environment that is conducive to learning for students with disabilities. It will also be helpful for those who may have other learning challenges such as English second language learners. Students will investigate strategies for differentiating instruction for students with learning and other disabilities and challenges within the general educational environment. Through lecture and hands-on experience, participants will explore practical uses of software that can be applied to classroom learning materials to make those materials more accessible to students needing assistance. (2 units)

EDT 121 Using Mobile Technology in Education

This course trains educators and prospective educators in the use of mobile technology in education to perform administrative, instructional, and other classroom functions. Specific topics include the basics of mobile devices, as well as apps such as productivity tools, student information system tools, assessment tools, curriculum tools, e-books, and writing tools. Other topics include policy and management issues related to mobile devices. (2 units)

EDT 122 Fundraising/Grant Writing for Educators

This course covers the basics of grant seeking, grant writing, and other forms of fundraising that will enable educators to obtain money for technology and other educational programs. The course will cover the process, structure, and skills to develop a conceptual framework for fundraising research, planning, writing skills and strategies. Budgetary considerations, budgetary planning, and presentation skills will also be addressed. (2 units)

EDT 123 Internet Tools for Educators

This course covers some of the tools provided on the Internet for educators including blogs, wikis, dictionaries, reference citation makers, libraries, and online rubric creators. Students will learn to use these tools, while discovering practical and creative uses to enhance their teaching. Methods of integrating the tools into the educational setting will be explored. (2 units)

EDT 125 Fundamentals of Online Teaching

This course is designed for educators and future educators who wish to learn the fundamentals of teaching online courses. Students will learn online course structures and delivery methods. (2 units)
