Cerritos College named Dr. Frank Mixson as Vice President of Academic Affairs

Dr. Frank MixsonNORWALK, Calif. – September 7, 2023 – Cerritos College named Dr. Frank Mixson as Vice President/Assistant Superintendent of Academic Affairs. Dr. Mixson was approved by the Board of Trustees at its June 21, 2023, board meeting and assumed his role on July 1, 2023. 

Dr. Mixson began his career at Cerritos College in August 1995 as a part-time faculty member in the English department. Rising through the ranks, he became a full-time Professor of English in 1998 and was promoted in 2018 to the Instructional Dean of Liberal Arts. Dr. Mixson demonstrated his leadership abilities by serving in numerous capacities across campus, including student learning outcomes coordinator, faculty accreditation liaison, basic skills coordinator, and Guided Pathways faculty co-coordinator. Dr. Mixson earned his doctorate in English from the University of Georgia, master’s degree from California State University, Long Beach, and bachelor’s degree from Drake University. 

“Dr. Mixson played a crucial part in building our campus community, and I am excited to see him advance in his new role. Initially as a faculty member, then as a dean, and now as a vice president, he continues to invest his experience and expertise into growing our award-winning programs and integrating student support services to increase our students’ success,” said Cerritos College President/Superintendent Dr. Jose Fierro.
