Application Process
The Spring 2026 application cycle for the Associate of Science degree program in Speech-Language Pathology Assisting is now OPEN. Please click on the button below to access the application. Follow the instructions in the application for completion and submission. All applications are due no later than MARCH 1, 2026 at 5pm.

Admission Requirements
Academic Prerequisites
All prerequisite coursework must be completed prior to submitting an application. Transcripts documenting completed coursework should be submitted with the application packet.
Students must have completed the following coursework:
1) Coursework that satisfies the English Composition and Math requirements for a local Associate's degree (see the Cerritos General Education Curriculum (CGEC) requirements) prior to submitting the application.
2) Major coursework prerequisites: Students must have completed the following courses or equivalent with a grade of “C” or higher (minimum 2.0 GPA) prior to submitting their application:
- A&P 120 Introduction to Human Anatomy and Physiology OR A&P 150 Introduction to Human Anatomy
- ASL 110 American Sign Language I
- CD 110 Child Development
CDSE 150 Introduction to Children with Special Needs OR CDSE 152 Curriculum and Strategies for Children with Special Needs - CD 139 Observation, Assessment, and Positive Guidance of Childhood Behavior
- SLP 100 Introduction to Speech and Language Pathology
- SLP 101 Introduction to Communication Disorders
- SLP 105 Speech and Language Development
- SLP 208 Introduction to Phonetics
Course acceptance and equivalency is based on a transcript review by a Health Occupations counselor. Speech-language pathology (SLP) prerequisite courses may not be taken more than 8 years prior to application. American Sign Language, anatomy, child development, and general education coursework may be older than 8 years.
Prior to submission of their application, students must have obtained:
- A minimum of a 2.0 cumulative GPA for all college coursework,
- A minimum of a grade of “C” or higher (minimum 2.0 GPA) in each prerequisite course, and
- A minimum overall 2.5 GPA for all prerequisite courses
Graduates with foreign or Bachelor's degrees in Speech-Language Pathology, Communication
Sciences, or Communication Disorders will not be given priority. Recency of SLP coursework
still applies. All foreign bachelor degrees must be verified by a Cerritos College
approved agency at the student’s expense.
Notes: Official transcripts sent to the Admissions and Records office will not be forwarded to the Health Occupations office for inclusion in the application file.
The application and all supporting documents must be emailed to the email address provided on the SLPA application by the deadline indicated on the application and on the SLPA website.
Incomplete and/or late applications will not be considered.
Selection Procedures
All required documents, including the Speech-Language Pathology Assistant Program application, and all official college transcripts must be submitted in the format outlined in the application to the email address identified on the application by the deadline.
Applications will be reviewed for:
- Completion of prerequisite coursework
- Minimum of 2.0 cumulative GPA for all college coursework, minimum of a grade of “C” or higher (minimum 2.0 GPA) in each prerequisite course, and a minimum overall 2.5 GPA for all prerequisite courses
- Submission of required documents (i.e., transcripts, completed application forms)
Application packets will be reviewed after the application deadline. Notification of acceptance or non-acceptance will be sent via email no later than by the end of the spring semester.
The program typically accepts 25 students who meet the GPA requirements, have completed all coursework by the time of application, and completed the application process as outlined on the application forms. If there are more qualifying applicants than available spots, a random lottery will be conducted.
