Cerritos College Theatre Alumni Success

 

Ivan Oyarzabal in a production of MetamorphosesIvan Oyarzabal's interest in theatre began when he took Fundamentals of Acting at Cerritos College. While at Cerritos, he performed in numerous productions, including Balm in GileadBig LoveHairTo Kill a Mockingbird, and Romeo & Juliet. He has since transferred to University of California - Berkeley, where he is a Theatre & Performance Studies major. Ivan's story can be read in this 2014 Talon Marks article.

John Corbett seated on a chairJohn Corbett is one of Cerritos College Theatre's most well known Alumni. After suffering a back injury which forced him to change careers, John enrolled in Cosmetology and Theatre courses at Cerritos. An early acting photo of John in Cerritos College's 1985 production of Hair can be seen in our photo archive.Today, he is a Golden Globe, Emmy, and Screen Actors Guild nominated actor, best known for his roles in Sex in the CityMy Big Fat Greek Wedding, and Northern Exposure.

 

 

 

A headshot of Oralia NeriaOralia Neria's first interaction with Cerritos College Theatre was in high school, when she saw G.I.P.S. (Generic Improvisational Peep Show), our touring improv. troupe, perform at her school. After becoming a Cerritos Theatre student herself, she performed in many shows, including HairThe Trojan Women, and All in the Timing, as well as becoming a G.I.P.S. member. Oralia has since graduated from California State University, Long Beach - College of The Arts with a degree in Theatre Performance and works for Disney.

 

 

 

A headshot of Sylvia BlushSylvia Cervantes Blush is a director, producer, and educator. In 2014 she was awarded a Fellowship by the Los Angeles Theater Center and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to participate in the Encuentro 2014 National Theater Festival in Los Angeles. She was an assistant director and choreographer for South Coast Repertory and has directed numerous times for PlayGround LA. As a theatre educator she has worked for International City Theatre PACT and Summer Youth Conservatory. Sylvia earned her A.A. Degree in Dance and General Studies from Cerritos College in 2002, her B.A. in Theatre from California State University, Long Beach and her M.F.A. in Directing from University of California - Los Angeles in 2019.

 

 

A headshot of Paul (Tully) JulianelliPaul (Tully) Julianelli is an actor, writer and director, who "fell back in love" with theatre upon getting cast in Cerritos College's production of Getting Here. A US Veteran, he is the Co-founder and current Artistic Director of Urban Theatre Movement. Paul's Theatre credits include Short Eyes at Miami's Adrienne Arsht center and the Los Angeles Theatre Center in DTLA and Handball as part of NYC summer stage. Paul wrote his first full length play, Replica, which world premiered in 2015 in Los Angeles. His TV and film credits include "11:55", "King Pins", "Small Shots" and "Agent X".
