Student Observations
Cerritos College students are welcome to visit the Child Development Center for indoor or outdoor observations to complete assignments for their child development courses.
Students, please follow the guidelines below:
Observation hours:
Monday through Friday, between 7:30 - 11:30 AM or 2:15 - 4:45 PM

Areas of observation:
- Group 1 (2-3 year-olds)
- Group 2 (3-4 year-olds)
- Group 3 (4-5 years olds)
- Group 4 (3.5 - 5 year-olds)
- Outdoor playground areas
- Conference Room for documentation panels and books
Required documents to conduct an observation:
- Student ID or CA identification card/license
- Class assignment, printed out
- Observation Verification Form, printed out. Your professor must complete the top portion
of the verification form before you visit the Child Development Center.
Observation guidelines:
- NO CELL PHONES ARE ALLOWED.
- Check-in at the front desk with office staff and turn in the required documents above.
- Once checked in, you receive a visitor badge and must sign in to the visitor log.
- Personal belongings, such as bags/purses, backpacks, and cell phones, are prohibited inside the Center. They can be stored in your car or a cubby directed by office staff.
- Notepads, class assignments, and pencils/pens are allowed inside the Center.
- Pictures of the children are only allowed if instructed in the verification form.
- Only students required to observe will be allowed in the Center, except those with support services. Companions and friends cannot enter the premises and can wait in the front office or outside of the CDC.
- When observing inside the classrooms, direct interactions with children are discouraged. Please stand on the side or in the perimeter of children's work areas.
- Student observations must be kept confidential and used for the purpose of learning.
Dress Code:
- Unacceptable clothing includes tank tops, strapless or spaghetti straps, off-the-shoulder cut-out designs, low-cut shirts, bare-back, mid-riff shirts, and sheer or mesh clothing that does not have an appropriate blouse or shirt underneath.
- Refrain from wearing clothes with profanity, inappropriate images, tears, rips, or holes.
- Preferable, closed-toe shoes or tennis shoes.
You will be asked to leave the Center if you do not follow the above guidelines and dress code.
