My name is Guadalupe Roque but please free to call me Lupe. I have a lovely family that consists of my husband and my two daughters. Cerritos College is a place that I hold dear to my heart. You see, here is where I met my husband. We have two beautiful daughters one who is a nine-year-old and our youngest is a six-year-old. Additionally, both of our daughters started at Cerritos CDC when they were two years old. Now, they are both in grade school, both my husband and I couldn’t be more pleased with the program as they were provided with a top-notch quality early education. That is one of the primary reasons why I decided to join this team of high-quality educators.

I started at Cerritos College as a student and after a couple of years, I obtained my associate in arts degree and transferred to California State University of Los Angeles (CSULA). At CSULA, I earned my bachelor’s degree in Child Development and then continued to pursue my master’s degree in Education.  I am a firm believer that we are all lifelong learners and therefore, continued to pursue higher education by obtaining a certificate in Community College teaching at Dominguez Hills.  Now, I also teach child development classes at both Cerritos College and at the California State University of Los Angeles.

From the time I was a young adult, I knew that I wanted to be in the field of education. I was going to be the best elementary teacher I could be. However, when I took my first child development class at Cerritos it all changed. I was absolutely mesmerized by the passion and love that my professors had. They inspired me to major in the field of early childhood. My philosophy is that the most important thing we can do for children is to help lay a strong foundation in the early years of their life. I believe that we should focus on the whole child. That means that aside from meeting their basic needs we must provide them with meaningful and loving relationships that enhance and support children in their growth and development.
