Taiwan Experience Education Program Expands Student Horizons
The Taiwan Experience Education Program (TEEP) is a study abroad and teaching internship in Taiwan. Promoted and funded by
the Taiwanese Ministry of Education (MOE), the program is designed to enhance and
enrich international education. Dr. Shin Liu, who is Board vice president and creator
of the College’s TEEP projects, is a long-time educator and advocate for student study
abroad programs.
The TEEP program offers three travel options, including one six-week summer project in Tainan City from May - June, a six-week summer project in New Taipei City from July - August, and a semester-long project in Taipei City. The TEEP program runs from August 22 - December 30, 2018. All three TEEP projects are MOE-approved, and hosted by Taipei University, and co-organized and sponsored by the Taipei City government.
In total, 52 students were selected to participate in the TEEP program this year. Eighteen students studied in New Taipei City, 16 students attended the Tainan program, and 18 additional students are participating in the four-month-long Taipei City program. The Taipei TEEP program participants are currently studying as University of Taipei students and working as teaching assistants. Students lodge with a host family, take free Chinese language lessons and cultural classes, and are able to experience local trips. Part of the program’s objective is to develop English-integrated teaching materials and assessment tools that promote English learning to young Taiwanese students.
“Through the Taiwan Experience Education Program, students can broaden their global awareness, travel abroad, and sharpen their teaching skills. These are crucial perspectives that tomorrow’s leaders need,” said Dr. Liu. “I’d like to thank Taipei University, the Taipei City government, and Rebecca Lan, director of Education Division Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Los Angeles for helping to make these programs possible.”
