Faculty Honored for Distinguished Service
Fourteen faculty members were honored for their service and mentorship to students
during the Outstanding Faculty Awards ceremony on April 25. Organized by the Faculty
Senate and the Professional Relations Committee, the event was attended by faculty
members, administrators, staff, and students. Frank Mixson, instructional dean, Liberal
Arts, presented this year's Most Outstanding Faculty to Angela Hoppe-Nagao, speech
professor, for her strong commitment to students. Monica Lee Copeland, chief development
officer, Cerritos College Foundation, presented Angela with a monetary gift on behalf
of the Foundation.
Angela Hoppe-Nagao has been a full-time faculty member at Cerritos College for more than 20 years. She fell in love with the field of speech communication while an undergrad at Cerritos College and a member of the Speech and Debate Team. She has a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and her research specialty is cultural intelligence and conflict management. Through the years she has served in a variety of leadership roles, including Speech Department Chair, Vice-President of the Faculty Senate, Learning Communities Coordinator, Chair of the Technology Based-Learning Committee, and member of the Guided Pathways Taskforce. This is her second award as Most Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year.
Faculty Senate Secretary Lisa Boutin-Vitela presented 13 instructors with Outstanding Faculty awards, and President Dr. Jose Fierro recognized faculty for their years of service:
