Disability Mentoring Day Inspires Students

Students at Mentoring DayFourteen Cerritos College students attended the national Disability Mentoring Day hosted at Los Angeles City Hall on April 24. Students were matched with mentors in their areas of career interest and spent the day job shadowing. Students visited the Los Angeles City Hall Information Technology Department, City Planning Department, City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, and Los Angeles Trade Technical College. The students learned about various career opportunities and connected with a mentor who provided tips on their future career goals. Additionally, students Ryan Rohrich, Chandni Patel, Alexandra Sosa, Daisy Padilla, and Angela Mendoza shared their experiences about Mentoring Day.

On Disability Mentoring Day, people with disabilities across the nation spend a day learning about the skills and education needed to succeed in the current job market. Employers are also exposed to the talent represented by people with disabilities to gain a better understanding of how these workers can help meet workplace needs. The Cerritos College DSPS and its students have participated in this annual event since 2008, and student participation has grown each year.
