Carlos Lopez Went from Incarceration to Graduation

Carlos Lopez at commencementCarlos Lopez has always been interested in education, but during his youth, school wasn’t his first priority. He got involved in gang life when he was 12 years old, and dropped out of high school in the 10th grade. At 19, Carlos was sentenced to 10 years in prison for a violent altercation.

After his time in prison, he enrolled at Cerritos College. Determined to succeed, Carlos worked and studied hard, and made positive connections on campus through PTK and the Accounting Club. He discovered a passion for accounting, and decided to pursue a career as a CPA. Carlos has received multiple scholarships.
