Psi Beta Chapter Receives National/Regional Awards

Roshni Choksi (r) with Jaclyn RonquilloThe Cerritos College chapter of Psi Beta was honored with multiple national and regional awards at the 2020 American Psychological Association national virtual conference.

The Chapter received a national Chapter Excellence Award that recognizes chapters that have achieved the mission of Psi Beta, professional development of psychology students at community colleges through promotion and recognition of excellence in scholarship, leadership, research and community service.

Student Roshni Choksi was selected as the McGraw-Hill Western Regional Student of the Year. Roshni transferred to California State University, Long Beach this fall. She is part of the BUILD Program that offers research and training opportunities for undergraduate students to prepare for doctoral programs and health-related research careers. As a BUILD scholar, Roshni is currently participating in a research project that explores early childhood sleep reduction during the first three years of life and whether it changes specific neurotransmitters. She plans to pursue advanced degrees in neuropsychology/cognitive psychology, and eventually become a researcher and professor.

Dr. Kimberley Duff, chapter co-advisor and professor of psychology, was chosen as the McGraw-Hill Western Regional Advisor of the Year. Dr. Duff serves as the 2019-21 Psi Beta National President.

"Jaclyn Ronquillo (chapter co-advisor and assistant professor of psychology) and I are honored to co-advise such an active Psi Beta Chapter at Cerritos College. These awards recognize our club as a whole; the students work so well collaboratively to support one another and to provide amazing opportunities in psychology to all students," said Dr. Duff.
