EDT 50 Preparation for Online Learning
This course teaches students the skills necessary to successfully complete an online class. Topics include study skills, time management, online student profiles, introduction to the Internet and the World Wide Web and information literacy, using email as well as other online services, netiquette, copyright and plagiarism, and basic aspects of word processing as it relates to creating and saving basic documents that can be attached to emails or uploaded to a learning management system. EDT 51 Communicating in the Online Environment
This course trains educator and prospective educators who wish to learn about how to incorporate e-mail and other online communication technologies into the academic environment. Participants will learn the fundamentals of e-mail use and management techniques. Emphasis is placed on e-mail, video communications, discussion forums, and Web 2.0 communications tools within the educational community. Educational topics will include creating a variety of communications to be used in a teaching setting, netiquette, creating good discussion topics, and issues surrounding student safety and security. EDT 67 Using Mind-Mapping Tools in Education
This course is intended to teach educators the basics of Inspiration, an "idea-mapping" and outlining software tool used in education. Students will create presentation diagrams and outlines to build and reinforce ideas. Students will learn to link presentations directly to the World Wide Web. Using the Internet and other resources, students will create lesson plans to incorporate into their curriculum. (1 unit)
This course is intended to teach educators how to use and teach Kidpix, a popular software product for the K-6 learning environment. Topics include creating desktop publishing projects, multimedia projects, and animation using Kidpix. Using the Internet and other resources, students will create lesson plans to incorporate into their curriculum. (1 unit)
