Professional Background
Professor Cabuto is an educator, writer, and creative producer specializing in Spanish language, cultural studies, and theater production. As a faculty member at Cerritos College, he served as Chair of the Modern Languages Department for over a decade, where he played a key role in curriculum development, faculty support, and program expansion. His leadership helped enhance language education offerings, develop new academic pathways, and ensure high-quality instruction across multiple programs.
His contributions to curriculum development include designing and authoring the SPAN 260: Frida Kahlo and Mexican Muralism course, which was approved for General Education in 2018, as well as leading the creation of Spanish Certificates of Achievement for both Heritage and Non-Heritage Speakers, published in the 2023-24 college catalog. In addition, he developed the Chicano Studies AA Degree (approved in 2016) and the Spanish AA for Transfer degree. He also authored the Chinese 102 Course Outline (2012), which was approved for IGETC and CSU GE-Breadth in 2013, further expanding the college’s general education offerings.
In addition to Spanish and Chinese course development, Professor Cabuto has worked extensively in expanding language programs, particularly in Korean language education. His efforts include developing course outlines for KOR 101 & 102 (approved in 2021) and currently leading the development of KOR 201, KOR 202, and KOR 260.
His work extends beyond traditional academics into theater and film production, where he uses storytelling to explore historical and cultural narratives. His most notable project, I Am Frida Kahlo, blends performance and history, providing audiences with a deeper connection to Mexican art and identity.
