Option-A Applicant

Application Cycle:

January 26, 2026 (8am) - February 27, 2026 (4pm)

The Cerritos College Nursing Program offers eligible candidates who are selected for admission, the opportunity to prepare for professional nursing through the pursuit of specific knowledge and skills. Graduates receive an Associate of Science (ASN) Degree and are eligible for the National Counsel Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) examination for licensure as a Registered Nurse.

OPTION A APPLICANTS:

  • Will complete the entire two years (4 semesters) of nursing studies.
  • Must complete required (4) prerequisites, TEAS or HESI Entrance Exam, meet grade point average requirements.
  • Will submit an electronic application with supporting documents during the annual application cycle (opens in January, closes in February).  *NO APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED BEFORE THIS
  • Must be fully eligible, and applications must be complete when submitted; no additional information may be added after it has been submitted and no late applications will be accepted.

PROGRAM PREREQUISITES: (Must be completed to apply)

  •  A&P 150, A&P 151, English Composition, and MICR 200 with GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Only ONE of the prerequisite courses (A&P 150, A&P 151, English Composition, MICR 200) can be repeated for a grade of “C” or higher. Two or more repeated prerequisites due to grades of “D” or “F” will disqualify the applicant.
  • A 5-year recency on all science prerequisites is highly recommended, but not required.
  • If an applicant repeats a prerequisite for recency and has passed the prerequisite with a “C” or higher the first time taken, that is not considered a “repeat prerequisite.”
  • "Online Labs" completed with the science prerequisites will be accepted in this application cycle.  However, this requirement will be changing.  Therefore, nursing majors enrolling in science prerequisite courses in Fall 2026 and forward are encouraged to take "on ground" labs.  
  • Mathematical Concepts and Quantitative Reasoning (Math112S recommended)

ADDITIONAL PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Completed high school or have a GED
  • This degree requires the completion of General Education coursework including the following courses: 
     PSYC 251, Developmental Psychology (3units) 
     SOC 101 Introductory Sociology Principles (3units) 
     Oral Communication (3 units) 
     Art or Humanities (3 units) 
     American Institutions (3 units) 
     Ethnic Studies (3 units)
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher for all prerequisite courses as well as for all completed college coursework
  • TEAS Exam > 62% OR HESI Exam > 70% (*HESI must have a science section)

      TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 10TH:  3P-8P (40 max)
      TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 17TH: 3P-8P  (40 max)

ALL Option A applicants will be screened for basic eligibility.  Then, those meeting basic eligibility will be screened using the Multi Selective Criterion (MSC).  Based on this:

  • 50% of the admission for the following academic year will be filled from the applicants with the highest points on the MSC.
  • 50% of admission for the following academic year will be filled by a random selection process (lottery).

No waitlist is maintained. If an applicant is not admitted and has continued interest in the Cerritos College Nursing Program, the applicant must reapply during following cycle.
