Japanese ITS

The other early Japanese ITS projects RACS, AMTICS, and VICS aimed at establishing navigation systems as integrated information systems to support drivers by providing real time information about traffic congestion. RACS (Road/Automobile Communication System) launched in 1984 by Ministry of Construction and private enterprise.

AMTICS (Advanced Mobile Traffic Information and Communication System) launched by the Japan Association of Traffic Control Technology.

VICS (Vehicle Information and Communication System) launched by the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications (MPT) and the Ministry of Construction.

VERTIS (Vehicle, Road and Traffic Intelligence Society) is the Japanese ITS program coordination and advisory body, the ITS America equivalent.
