National ITS Architecture and Standards

A system architecture is usually defined as the framework that describes how system components interact and work together to achieve total system goals. It describes the system operation, what each component of the system does and what information is exchanged among the components.

There are two types of System Architecture:

  • Closed Architecture

  • Open Architecture

The National ITS Architecture and its associated standards provide a framework for the development of an open system.
