Travel and Transportation Management

The Travel and Transportation Management user service bundle comprises the following user services:

  • En-Route Driver Information providing in-vehicle information on incidents, roadway and traffic, environmental, and trip information from highway advisory radio (HAR), dynamic message signs (DMS), and personal data assistance (PDA) technologies.

  • Route Guidance providing in-vehicle navigation using automatic vehicle location (AVL) technologies.

  • Traveler Services Information providing information on parking facilities, lodging, fuel stations, and related services from electronic yellow page technology.

  • Traffic Control which uses advanced hardware and software technologies (e.g. SCATS and SCOOT) to optimize signal control performance.

  • Incident Management which uses sensor and communications technologies to detect, verify, 
    and respond to incidents.

  • Emissions Testing and Mitigation which uses advanced technologies to detect and control mobile emissions as stipulated in CAAA of 1990.

  • Highway Rail Intersection which uses collision detection/avoidance and signal control technologies to increase safety at highway/rail intersections.

The following services are also included in this user service bundle:

  • Pre-Trip Travel Information: provides multi-modal transportation information (e.g. trip schedule, fare, roadway condition, and environmental conditions) via technologies using kiosk, CATV, and PDA (personal Digital Assistance).

  • Ride Matching and Reservation: provides real-time (dynamic) ridesharing information using AVL (Automatic Vehicle Location) technology.

  • Demand Management and Operations: leverages available information technologies to provide travelers with travel alternatives other than single occupancy vehicle (SOV) mode.
