Assistive Technology
WHAT:
Assistive technology is specialized software, hardware, and other technologies;
WHY:
Helps you access information, produce typed papers, and improve your understanding of what you read;
HOW:
To receive training on assistive technology available in the SAS High Tech Center, you can schedule an appointment with one of our staff members by going to the SAS Student Portal and scheduling an appointment. Be sure to select the "AT Training Appointment" type.
WHERE:
Once you've been trained, you can come to the High Tech Center during open hours and use the specialized programs. Some programs may also be available for you to access anywhere you have an internet connection.
TYPES OF ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY AVAILABLE IN SAS INCLUDE:
Text to Voice
Converts electronic text into an audio format, such as:
- Kurzweil 3000
- Read&Write
Voice to Text
Allows you to use your voice to dictate the text you wish to type, such as:
- MS Office Dictate
- Apple Voiceover
Mind Mapping
Helps organize your thoughts so you can more easily create outlines for papers and reports, such as:
- Inspiration
Brain Training
Helps improve your memory, processing speed, problem solving skills, and ability to focus, such as:
- Lumosity
Screenreaders
Reads what's on the screen to access websites, documents, and other software programs, such as:
- JAWS
Screen Magnification
Enlarges text on the screen or printed page, such as:
- ZoomText
- CCTV
