Preparing for Exams

The Testing Center makes every effort to ensure that students are provided with their approved testing accommodations in an appropriate environment that protects each student's ability to demonstrate what they have learned while maintaining exam security.  Students should be familiar with the following information prior to attending their first exam in the Testing Center:

BEFORE THE DAY OF YOUR EXAM

  • Remind your professor that you will be taking your exam in the SAS Testing Center;
  • Show your professor any additional materials which require their approval, such as note cards;
  • Try to get a good night's rest.

ON THE DAY OF YOUR EXAM

  • Plan to arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled time so you have time to prepare and gather your materials without rushing;

  • Before you arrive:
    • Have a healthy snack so you won't get hungry during your exam;
    • Use the restroom;
    • Dispose of any leftover food or drink;  only water is allowed in the Testing Center.

  • When you arrive:
    • Check in at the SAS office front desk;
    • Once checked in, take a seat using the bench seating outside the Testing Center door;
    • Your patience is appreciated while we prepare to proctor your exam;
    • Please remember that other students may be testing so it is important that we keep the area quiet.

  • Once inside the Testing Center:
    • Sign in on the log sheet;
    • Place personal belongings in the temporary lockers provided.  Cell phones and electronic/smart devices must be left in the locker unless their use has been approved by your instructor;
    • The test proctor will provide instructions and direct you to your seat; be sure to show the proctor any items you have been authorized to use during the exam, such as notes, formula cards, or calculators;

  • Please note:
    • For the safety of our students and to maintain exam integrity, all testing rooms are under surveillance;
    • Students found utilizing unauthorized materials will be reported to their professor, who will determine the consequences;
    • All academic dishonesty incidents are reported to the Office of Student Conduct & Grievances (OSCG);
    • For more information on academic dishonesty, please refer to the Standards of Student Conduct.
