Rationale for Developing National ITS Architecture

A National ITS Architecture is necessary for the following reasons:

  • Ensure uniformity in deploying ITS technological elements.

  • Ensure national compatibility and multi-modal systems integration.

  • Encourage open and fair competition amongst product manufacturers by adhering to a set of national standards.

Development of National Standards is necessary to sustain the “open” characteristic of the National ITS Architecture by ensuring compatibility of system components manufactured by different manufacturers.
