Societal Issues

Societal issues involve the following challenges:

  • Accommodating the driving needs of the aging population by minimizing distractions from in-vehicle technological elements by keeping them simple and less interactive with drivers

  • Accommodating the driving needs of the non-English speaking population in the U.S.

  • Showing sensitivity to the mobility needs of the non-driving population (including employment transportation associated with welfare-to-work initiatives and personalized transportation for the physically and mentally challenged population cohort)

  • Mitigating vandalistic threats to ITS equipment at remote locations

  • Mitigating the effects of big-brother-is-watching-you syndrome engendered by the use of ITS technologies
