Board Member Vacancy

The Board of Trustees is accepting letters of interest with statements of qualifications for appointment to fill a board vacancy created by the resignation of board member Carmen Avalos as of September 14. Avalos’ term ends November 2024. 

Application Process:

Those interested in an appointment to the vacant trustee position may submit a letter of interest with statement of qualifications no later than 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 6, 2022. Documents may be sent directly to:

While not required, candidates may also submit a letter of recommendation as a part of their application package. 

Mandatory Qualifications: 

Interested applicants must be a resident of the Cerritos Community College Trustee Area 2, which includes portions of the cities of South Gate, Downey, and Bellflower.

Review Criteria:

Letters of interest will be reviewed for the following characteristics: commitment to enhancement and further development of Cerritos College; familiarity with community; familiarity with college; commitment to higher education; enhancement of current board’s skills base; and added value that the candidate brings. 

Selection Timeline:

  • Close window to accept letters of interest: Thursday, October 6
  • Staff will notify at least three candidates of open interviews after Monday, October 10
  • Board to consider approval of nominee: Wednesday, October 19 at 6:00 pm or 7:00 pm (TBD)
