Strong Workforce Projects for 2019-2020

  • Accounting & Finance: The Accounting and Finance Department will purchase a one-year site license for the QuickBooks Certification Test. Students have repeatedly expressed interest in certification and licensing in QuickBooks to enhance their job skills and increase their employability. (TOP 0502.00)
  • Apprentice Data Collection: The goal is to formally collect student data, track that data and have a team utilize the aggregate and disaggregated data. This information will be then readily available for staff, faculty and administers in order to make more informed decisions regarding improvements of the Apprenticeship program. (TOP 0952.00)
  • Administration of Justice: To develop a series of mentorship workshops that assists and motivates students to identify career goals by introducing them to professionals in various fields within the Justice system. The workshops will be designed to match students with a mentor of similar background. (TOP 2105.00)
  • Automotive Mechanical Repair Technology: Attain VR headsets. Virtual reality (VR) training will allow students to develop their skills using work-based learning experiences. It will be better compared to the traditional lab format because each student will be able to experience going through a hands-on task that would typically be performed in an existing lab instruction.   • Business Communications Office Technologies: Update and reprint the BCOT Department degree and certificate brochures into a tri-fold format, including new and updated courses, certificates, and program. New and updated brochures will attract more students to BCOT program with more appealing and contemporary marketing design. (TOP 0514.00)
  • Business Management: Hire two adult hourly students. The first position is designed to support the Retail Management Program and Business Administration department in managing student persistence and completions. The second position is designed to offer support on CTE Online Business Pathways. The adult hourly will work with students who have completed their CTE certificates who want to go on for AA Degrees and some for Bachelor's Degrees. Lastly host a training session with Apple, Everyone Can Code. (TOP 0506.00)
  • Child Development: The Child Development Department must upgrade technology to bring the students skills up to the Child Development field’s growing industry standards. By providing updated technology, the students will gain knowledge that will make their teaching practices better in the field of Early Childhood Development and thus more hirable. In addition, this upgrade will allow the Child Development Department to create a virtual lab to support student learning during Covid-19 and beyond. (TOP 1305.00)
  • Computer Software Development: Modernizing classrooms with a technology-assisted student-centered learning environment. Virtual classroom with the latest teaching tools for instructors to enhance teaching online and improve student learning outcomes. Procurement of various software and supplies.  Aligning CIS courses with CTE Model Curriculum. Develop new courses and certificates of achievement related to web application development, mobile application development, and data science. (TOP 0707.10)
  • Cybersecurity/Networking/Cloud Computing:  This proposal aims to grow student enrollment (especially in online courses), student success rate by enhancing online learning/instruction technologies, by helping faculty with professional development. Increase in online course enrollment in IT programs, Increase in student success rate. More students achieving IT certifications (TOP 0708.10 and 0707.30)
  • Cosmetology: Our goals are to acquire new advance tools and equipment to help broaden student knowledge in skin and hair care, which will lead to students being more prepared for salon/spa work. Also, professional development classes for instructors to obtain new techniques and advance training, which will be passes on to students and will also lead to students being more prepared for work.   • Culinary Arts: This project is to transition the CB105/6 classroom into a skills lab for culinary arts department. A second laboratory kitchen will accommodate increased enrollment as well as new student population that will be starting our new Hospitality Management AS-T. Integrate technology effectively to connect with students of all learning styles and provide access to industry professionals and alumni to collaborate on current trends and technics in our industry.   • Dental Assisting: Provide the opportunity to have all Dental Assisting faculty (full-time & adjunct) attend a California Association of Dental Assisting Teachers (CADAT) conference in San Diego, California. This faculty development activity will enhance our faculty’s knowledge of current teaching methodology. Also, purchase new dental equipment and replace outdated and existing equipment. The purchase of these models will help our students practice the skill of teaching oral hygiene instruction to patients within our community (TOP 1240.10)
  • Dental Hygiene: Firstly, the purchase of periodontal probing models will allow the first semester dental hygiene students an opportunity to experience realistic probing. Secondly, the periodontal probing models will be utilized to facilitate faculty assessment of calculus for more consistent student evaluations. The most significant outcome for purchasing the Periodontal Probing Models is to allow the department to continue to design and implement learning opportunities based on current professional trends.   • International Business: Produce high quality videos for BA website pages and online lectures: The BA faculty will use laptops, LED ring lighting devices, microphones, Camtasia software, and cameras to produce high quality online lecture videos and improve our online class quality. Virtual Business Week: One-week online events to promote business learning and student success. The events include a variety of faculty lectures, guest speakers, information sessions, and workshops.   • Journalism: Create a Converged Media Center that focus on providing opportunities for broadcast, print, and digital production. Bolstered by new degrees and certificates in broadcast/new media, this new center will provide a learning space for both our Journalism and Film, TV and Electronic programs, emphasizing a new, interdisciplinary media skill set for the 21st century content creator.   • Marketing: Attending state and national conferences. Develop a New Supply Chain Management Certificate. Host the 3rd Student Pitch Competition. Faculty Library: The BA faculty continues to build our faculty library with up-to-date books and teaching materials. LCD/OLED display screen in the BE Building to promote BA programs and send real-time updates/department offerings. (TOP 0509.00)
  • Machine Tool Technology: The department would need additional equipment such as a robotic Machine Tending Educational Cell (MTEC-SIM) for the MTT 120 course to introduce students to the entire high-tech manufacturing processes with industrial automation, robotics, and prepare them for continuing study and employment in high wage career.   • Commercial Music: The primary goal is to enhance the surround sound in the new studio. These enhancements will allow the program to build a new certification degree in immersive audio and game audio. This new program will create more opportunities for students and professional seeking additional training and certification in immersive audio technologies. (TOP 1005.00)
  • Associate Degree Nursing Program: Provide a 3-Day Training in Spring 2021 for all FT and PT Nursing Faculty on Concept Based Curriculum Model and Clinical Judgment Model. Also, skills Lab Equipment Replacement: Concordance Healthcare Solutions, Deep Vein Thrombosis Prevention Sequential Machine. (TOP 1230.10)
  • Pharmacy Technology: Enhancement of equipment, andragogy, professional connections and development. Updated equipment will allow students to experience a simulated environment that closely resembles the work place. Attend California Board of Pharmacy meetings and Board of Pharmacy Committee meetings to advocate for more stringent licensure requirements for pharmacy technicians. (TOP 1221.00)
  • Physical Therapist Assistant: Purchase of Lab equipment and exercise tools. Maintain up-to-date equipment and tools for teaching and student practice. Provide continuing education for part-time faculty will enhance professional development opportunities for CTE faculty to maintain industry and program relevance. (TOP 1222.00)
  • Real Estate: Continue with support staff (hourly) to assist and guide students through the certificate, degree, and application processes. Acquire Real Estate Investments course as an elective for the Real Estate salesperson's license and the Real Estate Broker's license. Equipment needs are a charging cart for the iPads. (TOP 0511.00)
  • Speech-Language Pathology Assistant: Purchase a SMART board for the Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) Program. Purchase instructional media and material. Teachers will have access to a variety of activities and presentation modes for instruction (e.g., comprehension checks, demonstration, structured learning task). (TOP 1220.00)
  • Technical Theater–Costume: Purchase 15-Brother ST371HD Sewing machines so that students will learn the proper care, cleaning, oiling, and maintenance of a sewing machine. Students will become more proficient in the skill of sewing and will be able to complete their projects in a timely manner. (TOP 1006.00)
  • Technical Theater–Makeup: Purchase 16-SMKIT Makeup Starter Kits from Coast Airbrush in Anaheim. If our makeup program can acquire a set of airbrush/compressor kits, we will be able to teach the students this skill and increase their employment opportunities. (TOP 1006.00)
  • Woodworking Manufacturing Technologies: Purchase new CNC equipment and an edge banding machine so that students learn the latest techniques and skills to prepare for jobs of the future in woodworking. Update technology in Woodworking facilities to better reflect future trends in technology in woodworking manufacturing. (TOP 0952.50)
