During the current COVID pandemic, all Cerritos College faculty teaching online are required to document at least minimum competency to teach remotely. Although full certification is not required to teach online during the current emergency, it is a requirement for teaching online in non-emergency circumstances.
Faculty interested in teaching beyond the current pandemic may consider becoming fully certified to teach online. Click on the boxes below for details about various methods by which Cerritos College faculty currently can become fully certified to teach online.
NOTE: Additional pathways to full certification will be updated as they become available.
FULL CERTIFICATION OPTIONS
For full certification, faculty must complete an intensive synchronous bootcamp experience
which will be centered around a relevant book on distance education and will include
the development of course artifacts reflecting mastery of key online teaching principles.
Upon completion of the training experience and validation of the course artifacts by the DE Coordinator facilitating the bootcamp, faculty will be considered fully certified to teach online at Cerritos College.
*Bootcamps experiences will likely be offered during Flex Week or otherwise outside of primary terms to accommodate faculty schedules.
For full certification, faculty must:
•Attend specified series of CTX Pro Tips workshops (or complete Canvas course modules
that have been approved as alternatives);
•Complete an accompanying seminar experience which will be centered around a relevant book on distance education and will include the development of course artifacts reflecting mastery of key online teaching principles.
Upon completion of the specified workshops and confirmation of seminar completion by the DE Coordinator, faculty will be considered fully certified to teach online at Cerritos College.
Faculty who have been certified to teach online by another accredited institution or via @ONE training may qualify for full certification to teach online at Cerritos College. Such faculty should submit appropriate documentation (e.g., completion certificate/badge; transcripts with course description) to DECoordinators@cerritos.edu for validation (with the Subject line: “Full certification”).
Upon validation that the certification training addressed the key components of online teaching, faculty will be considered fully certified to teach at Cerritos College.
NOTE: Faculty who complete EDT 125 at Cerritos College may also qualify for full certification upon recommendation by EDT 125 instructor.
